Welcome to the Journalism Program
Our Program celebrated its tenth anniversary at an October, 2006 reunion of the Emory journalism community. It has been a comeback decade. The university phased out the former Journalism Division in 1953. The Cox Newspapers endowment restored the Program in 1996.
Ten years of accomplishment later, Journalism is at home at Emory. We are more than a professional school of practice. Our core is Emory's strong tradition in the liberal arts and sciences. Students learn to think critically, write powerfully and report ethically. They earn a Journalism co-major or minor to complement their other studies.
The Program builds a strong foundation in journalism fundamentals, press issues, and new technology. Students gain versatility in various media. They hone their skills in professional newsrooms at home and abroad.
The Journalism Program admits a select group of Emory students each semester. They have first priority in enrolling in Journalism courses and access to our state-of-the-art computer lab. The prominent, committed journalists on our faculty work closely to develop student writing and professionalism.
We welcome other majors seeking to pursue journalism and become better writers and communicators. Students can try their hand at news reporting and writing. Or they can apply their expertise in interdisciplinary courses such as science writing or arts criticism. The ability to write clearly and concisely means broader professional prospects, no matter what the career.
Come and join us!
