David Armstrong

David Armstrong is a veteran investigative reporter and educator. He is the co-author of the book "America and the Islamic Bomb: The Deadly Compromise," an inside look at the world of nuclear-weapons smuggling. Prior to joining the Emory faculty, he was a professor of journalism in the Washington Semester Program at American University.  He served as bureau chief of the National Security News Service in Washington, D.C., for seven years and, before that, as editor of the Texas Observer, a journal of Texas politics and culture.  Armstrong's work has won a number of national awards and has appeared in Harper’s, MacLean's, The New Republic and other major publications and newspapers. He has a doctorate in American Studies and a master’s degree in journalism, both from the University of Texas at Austin and a B.A. in English from UCLA.

Hank Klibanoff
Hank Klibanoff, a veteran journalist and Pulitzer Prize-winning author, is the James M. Cox, Jr. Professor of Journalism at Emory. He co-authored "The Race Beat: The Press, the Civil Rights Struggle, and the Awakening of a Nation" that won the 2007 Pulitzer Prize for history. Prior to joining Emory, he was a reporter and editor for more than 35 years, held various editing positions at the Philadelphia Inquirer and served as a managing editor of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.  He holds an undergraduate degree in English from Washington University and a master's degree from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University. He oversees the Civil Rights Cold Case Project that uses multimedia reporting to investigate unsolved racial murders that took place during the modern civil rights era in the South.

Sissel McCarthy
International journalist Sissel McCarthy, a Journalism lecturer, has spent more than a decade reporting business news from New York, London, and Atlanta. She worked for CNN International and anchored the World Business Today, World Business This Week and Business Morning programs from London. McCarthy also worked for CNBC in London for two years as a correspondent and anchor. She began her career in journalism at CNN's Moneyline in New York and most recently worked for PBS and GPTV. McCarthy holds Masters' degrees in Journalism and International Affairs from Columbia University and a bachelor's degree in Government and Romance Languages from Dartmouth College.

Sheila Tefft

Sheila L. Tefft, a senior lecturer in the Journalism Program, was a reporter, editor and foreign correspondent for almost 25 years. She served as Journalism director 2000-2009. Prior to joining Emory, she taught journalism and writing courses at Louisiana State University. She spent 12 years in Asia where she was a correspondent and bureau chief for The Christian Science Monitor in Beijing, Bangkok and New Delhi. She attended Marquette University and holds a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Wisconsin. She received a M.Sc. degree in economic history from the London School of Economics and Political Science in 1977. She has also worked for The Chicago Tribune and The Atlanta Constitution and freelanced for many other publications.
